A city grows and flourishes according to the number of public pub-lic spirited citizens who compose its population. Mr. M. O. Evans of the Prompt Cleaners, located at 4774 S. State in Murray, is one of these men who has given much toward the development of Murray and its environs. He has turned his personal per-sonal success in the business field to the advantage of the people as a whole and has accomplished much towards making his city a better place in which to live-Mr. live-Mr. Evans' thorough knowledge of the many technical phuses of the cleaning business has raised him to a position of leadership in his field of activities and gained gain-ed for him recognition as one of the city's more progressive business busi-ness men. O Two of the men to whom we wish to call the attention of our leaders are Earl and Harry Keate owners and operators of the firm of Keate Brothers Hardware Store, located at 4818 S. State in Murray. They are business men who have never spared themselves themsel-ves in their aggressive march forward and their competitors respect them as much as do all others with whom they come in contact. The Keate Brothers are at all times conscious of their civic responsibilities re-sponsibilities and may be depended de-pended upon to meet in every detail de-tail the many opportunities which present themselves to be of service ser-vice to their city. Earl and Harry Keate's record of achievement is one of which they may well be j proud. Their value to their city and its trade territory is an established es-tablished fact and we hasten to give them the credit which is justly due. Clarence Read and Max Corn-well Corn-well have, by the conduct of their business and their attention to civic affairs, earned the friendship friend-ship and good will of their fellow fel-low citizens. HAZELGREN One of the more progressive business men of Murray and a man who deserves the respect and good will of a great many residents of the area, is capable, friendly G. A. Hazelgren, owner and manager of the Murray Feed & Seed Store, located at 4777 S. State, whose wide knowledge end long experience in the feed and seed business has raised him to a position of prominence in his line. It is because of this that the Murray Feed & Seed Store has earned a reputation for reliability second to none. Mr. Hazelgren is also civic-minded civic-minded and has always been ready to contribute his time and energy to any plan which promises prom-ises to benefit the entire district. And the people of Murray may regard with particular satisfaction satisfac-tion the many services which he has performed for the community commu-nity in the interest of Droeress x- LeROY JEPPERSON In compiling this review of progressive Murray business people, peo-ple, we have endeavored to select se-lect those citizens who, by the manner in which they have conducted con-ducted themselves and their businesses, have caused the public pub-lic to spot in them, certain qualities quali-ties over and above the average. Such a man is Mr. LeRoy Jep-person, Jep-person, manager of the Grand Central Market, located at 4868 S. State, who is a leading grocery groc-ery merchandiser and is well known to many of our readers because he has many friends and customers in this area. Mr. Jepperson's main interests have not been solely confined to his own business and private affairs, af-fairs, but have also included his contributions, in one form or another an-other to those projects of a civic nature which come within the PETE YANO It is fitting in this review of progressive business men that we acquaint our readers with the man to be credited with having maintained the State Bowling Lanes, in the enviable position it holds in the recreational life of this district. That personality is Mr. Pete Yano, the owner and operator, whose genious for organization or-ganization and for converting new ideas into actual deeds has played a vital part in the distinctive distinc-tive reputation which the State Bowling Lanes now enjoys a-mong a-mong the keglers of this district. Mr. Yano has found time in addition to his business interests to give thought and energy to community projects. He is a citizen citi-zen whose talents have been steadfastly devoted to the best interests of the city. He has been successful in his own business and in the promotion of the gen- FRED O. E. WATROUS Every progressive, successful business man in Murray contributes contrib-utes in some manner to the growth and progress of the city. And a man who is always willing will-ing to do his bit in both business and civic activities is Mr. W. E. Watrous, Pres. manager of the Lee Motor Supply Co., located at 4778 S. State. He is well known and has many friends throughout through-out thus entire district. The prominent part that the Lee Motor Supply Co., is playing in the business and civic life of Murray and vicinity, mirrors the progressiveness and ability of such men as he. He has also at all times been steadfast in his devotion to the city and the sur-r rounding country and on many occasions has lent his support to RAY RUNNELLS Mr. Ray Runnells, the owner and operator of the Granger Hardware & Appliance Store located lo-cated in Granger at 2055 W. 3500 S., is one of those progressive hardware and appliance dealers who has consistently forged a-head a-head in business. He has also put his shoulder to the wheels of civic progress whenever help is needed in furthering enterprises promoted for the general welfare of the community. Mr. Runnells was never a man given to wishful thinking. His methods are those of direct action ac-tion and whether the problem at hand is one concerning his own business or that of a civic their apparent willingness to devote de-vote some of that ability to the promotion of civic activities further fur-ther enhances their value to the city. The safety and efficiency of the operations of the Murray Cab Co., reflecting as it does the executive ex-ecutive abilitv of these men, has earned for the company a well deserved popularity among the people they serve. We are glad to give Fred Boehme and Glen Houtz the credit they so well deserve de-serve for their achievements and to wish for them continued successful suc-cessful careers as two of Murray's Mur-ray's more progressive business men. ED IIOBBS The progress of any community commu-nity hinges to a great extent upon up-on the activities of the more progressive men in the world of business. O MAURINE LAWRENCE Progressiveness coupled with ability, always a praise worthy feature in the passing scene of any community's daily life, is to be duly appreciated. In full realization real-ization of this and in recognition of the splendid personality which gives impetus to the personal success suc-cess in her case, many residents and business people of Murray and our own community, regard Miss Maurine Lawrence, the owner and operator of Maurine's Beauty Shop, which is located at 120 E. 4800 S., as a true asset to her city and this district. Miss Lawrence is keeping her beauty shop at the forefront at all times and by using the most modern equipment and the more popular methods of beauty culture, cul-ture, she has maintained a position posi-tion of leadership in her field of endeavor. Capable and energetic in the management of the business busi-ness she has come to be recognised recog-nised as one of Murray's more progressive business women. What Maurine Lawrence and her shop of beauty culture have accomplished in the past is the best indication of what may be expected of her and her beauty shop in the future. She has our admiration and best wishes for continued success. O FRANK C. HOWE One of the more progressive real estate men of Murray and one whose success can partly be attributed to a deep insight as to the direction in which the city will develop is Mr. Frank C. Howe, who has been a progressive progres-sive business man of Murray, for the past fifty-three years, first as an automobile dealer, then lumber and auto and is now the owner of the Howe Real Estate Co. located at 112 Vine St. He has a sound basic knowledge knowl-edge of real estate values and has turned that knowledge to the" advantage of the people with whom he does business. His aggressive ag-gressive methods, coupled with ! his sound and practical ideas, have made the services he renders rend-ers to the people more valuable ' and materially contributed to his well earned success. Mr. Howe is also civic minded and ha3 always shown a cheerful cheer-ful willingness to contribute his share of time and energy to the promotion of community projects. It is because of the activities of such progressive business people peo-ple that Murray continues, year after year to show such a healthy growth and expansion both as a -residential and industrial city. We are glad to pay tribute to Frank Howe for the part he is playing in the onward progress of his city. EARL F. MARSHALL Mr. Earl F. Marshall, owner and operator of Marshall's Jewelers, Jewel-ers, located at 4871 S. State, has a well earned reputation for progressiveness pro-gressiveness because he has consistently con-sistently forged ahead in his business, bus-iness, never letting up in his efforts ef-forts to make the service his company renders to the people more valuable. This invariable policy has made Marshall's Jewelers, Jew-elers, outstanding in its field, a fact that is well known to the public in the Murray trade area. In connection with the fore going statement we wish to mention men-tion and pay tribute to Mr. Curt Bubel, owner and operator of the Murray Floral Co., located next to the Murray Theater, in Murray. Mur-ray. Mr. Bubel has proved very ably that he is a florist of more than average ability, for it is largely due to his progressive methods coupled with his sound and practical ideas that his flower flow-er shop and floral service has held its high position in the public's pub-lic's opinion in this area, for the past thirty seven years.
