Show Bingham District Athletic Association Enters Utah Industrial Baseball Loop . 1 Newest Type Lighting Features Night Games by Jim Abplanalp Bingham, the mining town once known a.s Utah's baseball hotbed, bids fair to become a potent figure again in the semi-pro semi-pro diamond circles, with the announcement today of an entry in the Utah Industrial league. Through the efforts of the Bingham Bing-ham District Athletic Association, Associa-tion, a unique organization com- C rising members of the town's usiness and civic groups, the workers at the huge mine and sports lovers of neighboring localities, lo-calities, an entry has been assured as-sured in the fast Industrial loop. BDAA, sponsor of last year's champions of Utah's Amateur Baseball Federation, seeking to provide the best possible sports entertainment as well as community com-munity harmony and youth development, de-velopment, deemed it wise to take a further step in the sport world that is so much the everyday every-day life of the average American. With the combined energy of BDAA's several hundred members, mem-bers, the loyal support of business busi-ness houses and the splendid cooperation co-operation of school and mining concerns, Bingham will be provided pro-vided with a lighted baseball park, second to none in the entire en-tire state. An entirely new lighting light-ing system is to be installed at the high school stadium, with the lights now in use being moved mov-ed to the new softball field adjacent adja-cent to the stadium. Frank Zaccaria, long a prominent prom-inent figure in Utah baseball circles, was appointed manager of Bingham's entry in the Industrial Indus-trial league, and has scheduled workouts for aspirants of the new entry beginning Sunday at 4:00 ' p.m. Bingham baseball fans have been chomping at the bit for several sev-eral years to get back in the thick of organized baseball warfare war-fare and have protested the absence ab-sence of local competition. This season the BDAA entry, although an unknown quality, hope to reawaken re-awaken the tremendous diamond spirit that used to be synonamous with Bingham. In an intensive campaign to further worthwhile ' sports and entertainment of vital interest to the entire Bingham district, tha BDAA has planned a gigantic drive for new members. Such activities as baseball, softball, basketball, bowling and various other programs that the BDAA has sponsored in past years will be continued, and the added incentive in-centive of night games under the finest lighting, arrangement possible, pos-sible, will do much in making Bingham an even better town. BDAA opens Industrial league play at Helper May 8th with the first home game scheduled for May 18, against Magna. Preps Play Jordan Today Bingham high diamond nine plays host to the powerful Jordan Jor-dan team this afternoon at Copperton Cop-perton in a midseason practice game. Coach Santistevan's crew , has rounded into another strong Eggregation and the locals will try hard to upset the Beetdigger nine. So far Bingham has lost only , to Judge Memorial, while win-. win-. ning from Murray (2) and North Summitt in regular league play, i Thursday, April 21 Bingham . played Judge at Copperton and , meets N. Summit at Copperton , April 25. All high school home games and other activities, except ex-cept class dances, are free to EDAA members upon presenta- tion of cards. SOFTBALL MEETING APRIL 28 A special softball meeting for managers of all teams wishing to enter the 1949 BDAA softball league will be held at the City hall Thursday evening, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. Managers or cap-teins cap-teins of all squads interested . should make it a point to be present pres-ent with definite plans so as a schedule and the proper arrangements arrange-ments can be made. The new lighting system should be ready for night play by the time our league starts. We are expecting the best softball sesaon ever in Bingham this year, so please get busy and help us make it so. Joe Christensen, director of Salt Lalfe County Recreation, met with the BDAA this week and agreed to help make the softball field one of the state's best.
