Show COMMISSION RULES QN LUMBER RATE WASHINGTON. July 7. The Interstate commerce commission today ltiued an order effective September 11. directing; railroad in the northwest to establish generally tho same ratea on lumber and forest products from South Portland aa from Portland. Or. On shipment a to southern Idaho and Montana, however, the eommtsffton allowed al-lowed a rale of 1 cent a hundred pounda higher from South Portland than from Portland. The railroads heretofore have chara-ed Centrally hicher rates from South Portland Port-land due to the fact that the lumber yards are not located on the main lines entering Portland. A practice of many railways of absorb-In absorb-In their divisional of a through rata on property purchased for their own use, so that the original shipper ahall pay oniy that -portion of the through rate which accrues to the Initial t-a triers, today was condemned as unlawful by the committee. The particular case was that of the Beekman Lumber company of Kanaaa City against certain western and southwestern south-western lines. In another case brought by the Beek-man Beek-man Lumber company the commission w condemned contract between shippers and carriers which look to the Imposition of unpublished divisions of joint ratus. |
