Show HARPER, OF FIDELITY BANK FAME. BANKRUPT NEW YORK," July 7. Edward L. Harper, who tried to corner the Chicago wheat market in 1887, lost $8,000,000 in twenty minutes, and incidentally carried car-ried down to wreck the Fidelity bank of Cincinnati, of which he was vice president, for which he waa sent to the Ohio penitentiary for ten years, haa no income, and his shirt studs aad cuff buttons are ia pawn. These facts were brought out here yesterday in the examination of Harper Har-per in auppiementarv proeeedinge on a judgment of $1744 obtained by Herman Cohen last November for money loaned. Harper is operating a company known aa Harper Son, doing an iron aad steel commission business, but ha told the referee that the first waa not making mak-ing any money and that he had never had any income from it. |
