Show PHR Of 1852 DIESAFTER LIFE OF LONG USEFULNESS John Burton, one of the most popular pioneer of this eity, died at tbe home of kit daughter, lira. C K. H inter, 960 South Eighth Kant street, yesterday afternoon af-ternoon of heart failure induced by old tilt. Mr. Burton wss 79 yeara old. He came across the plains with his parents in tbe fall of 1852. in an ox-train. He was a native . of Westmoreland. England, Eng-land, and came to America in 1848. Mr. Burton followed , the carpenter trade for manr Tears. For the last six month he barf been confined to bis room at the home of his daughter. He was a veteran of the Indian wars, and a close friend and associate of Orson Hyde, Parley P. Pratt, Britain Young and other leaders of the Mormon church. The family now living comprises four sons, two dmighters,- fifty-four grandchildren, grand-children, and ten great grandchildren. The sons are: Samuel of Mill Creek, William and George of this eity, the latter lat-ter being a veteran member of the Halt Lake police force; and Walter of Granger. Utah. The daughters are Mrs. Mary E. Burt of 8panish Fork and Mr. Ilnmer. The funeral services will be held Sunday Sun-day afternoon at 2 o'clock at tbe thir-I thir-I ty-first ward meeting house. |
