WILL DE DEMANDED NEW YORK, March 19. It was thought early this morning that unless all signs fall, today would see the completion of the evidence of the long-drawn-out Thaw trial and Friday the case would go to the 3ury after nine full weeks before the court. ' Four more medical experts wero to be called to the stand today by the defense., Dr. tharlea W. Pilgrim, superintendent superin-tendent of the Insane hospital at Pough-keepsle, Pough-keepsle, N. T.; Dr. Mlnas Gregory, superintendent super-intendent of the psychopathic ward at Bellevue hospital; Dr. Brltton D. Evana, and Dr. Charles G. Wagner. The two latter having already testified for the defense, each will be asked, basing his opinion on the District Attorney's hypothetical hy-pothetical question, whether rn his opinion opin-ion Thaw, when he shot White, knew the nature and quality of his act and knw that it was wrong. Each will reply that in his opinion Thaw did not. Jerome's cross-examination probably will be brief and there was little doubt all the evidence evi-dence In the case would be In before' court adjourned tonight. Thaw's attorneys stated last night that Evelyn Nesbit Thaw would not. be re-, called to' the witness stand. The only thing she eould do would be to deny again that she told Hummel that 'she had been . beaten by Thaw and deny again that she knew what was Hn the famous affidavit when she signed it. Jt was not thought that this would be of any value to the defense, de-fense, as she has already told her side of tire story. The attorneys for the defense de-fense state that they do Hot consider that the introduction of the affidavit has done , the case the slightest harm, while District Attorney Jerome ' Is quoted as saying that he considers it one of the strongest features In his case. Under the "agreement each side will take one day for the summing up. If the case is finished today it was said Delmas Del-mas would begin his address to the Jury Wednesday morning and Jerome would begin Thursday morning. It was thought probable that Justice Fitzgerald would charge the Jury the following morning, and the case should go to the Jury by noon Friday. Delmas. In Ms address to the jury, will |
