Show LAND APPOINTEES ARE TURNED DOWN Disclosures in Recent Investigation In-vestigation Result in Rejection Re-jection of Two Appointments Appoint-ments by Gov Cutler. In an executive session yesterday the Senate t refused to confirm the appointment, appoint-ment, by Gov. Cutler of W. J. Lynch and W. Candland 'as - members of the State Board of Land commissioners. The grounds on which the attack was made on the two men was the discoveries by the recent Senate investigation, which caused the resignation of Harry S. Anderson. An-derson. Another person whom the Senate failed to confirm was S. T. Whltaker of Ogden as a member of the governing board of the State Art Institute. It was contended by the Ogden Senators that Whltaker is not qualified for the place. It was expected that there would be some difficulty over the appointments for the University and college boards, but this was brushed aside and the list sent by the Governor was appointed1. H. B. Cromar was confirmed as State Fish and Game commissioner and W. II. Thaln and H. N. Hayes as members of the State Board of Land commissioners. . The meeting held up the appointment of State Statistician Fred W. Price and also the a point ment of Harry R. Joseph on the Industrial school board. The members mem-bers of the Senate whom the Governor appointed were con Armed by the Senate in open session. Those appointed are Charles R. Holllngsworth and Stephen H. Love on the State commission on uniform uni-form legislation, Samuel C. Park to be brigadier-general of the Governor's staff, Thomas C. Calllster as secretary of. the State Board of Land commissioners, and John H. Seely as member of the Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing society board. |
