Show NORTHERN PACIFIC MILEAGE 098 MILES, SAYS COMPTROLLER CHICAGO, March 19. n. A. Gray; comptroller of the Northern Pacific Railroad iompany, appeared before Interstate Commerce Commissioners Prout and Harlan today to supplement the information given yesterday regarding re-garding the value of railroad properties held by the company. He declared that August 31, 1896, when the railroad was sold under foreclosure fore-closure proceedings, the total value of the property was $241,067,770, of which amount $22,005,207 was in equipment.' There were then 4499 miles of railroad, costing $53,575 a mile. August 80, 1906, the mileage, according ac-cording to the witness, had increased to 6098 . miles., and the officials had expended ex-pended $18,231,857 for improvements and $2,008,596 for equipment, which had been paid out of the 'income account. ac-count. : |
