Show CONTEST FOR CONTROL OF TAMMANY HALL IS ENDED WITH HARMONY NEW YOEK, April 29.An end to tie contest for control of Tammany Hall between Mayor McClellan and Ciarles F. Murphy was announced to-diy, to-diy, following a conference between Timothy D. Sullivan and Corporation Counsel William B. Ellison, the latter ol whom represented the. Mayor. Mr. Ellison, after the conference, gave ot t a statement in. which he 'said the Mayor will be left free to appoint the highest class of men he could find for city offices, but that he (Ellison) will a(.vise against the appointment of men inimical to the Democratic organization organiza-tion or its leaders. Mr. Sullivan, . he said, agreed that oiJy efficient men should be retained ii or appointed to city offices. The Mayor will recognize the rights of its leaders to control the Democratic organization organ-ization and will ask that the organisation organisa-tion give him its support in his efforts tc solve the great municipal problems wtnch confront them. In that ivay it wis hoped to eradicate the lines drawn butween the organization and the administration. |
