Newhouse properties In Beaver county could not be verified ' at the company's offices in this city. It was said that the high-grade ore bodies are Improving, and that development work in the lower levels of the Cactus ground was opening up a storehouse of wealth. During the past month the company marketed 3000 tons of concentrate and twenty cars of crude ore, which. It is estimated, es-timated, will net the corporation several hundred thousand dollars after all charges have been deducted. This showing show-ing verifies the statement that the ground is improving in the character of its product, pro-duct, and that the company is in a position posi-tion at any time to begin the distribution of dividends. Because of the protracted stay of Samuel Newhouse in his New York offices, there has been a disposition on the part of some of the street traders to have the directors of this company decide upon the payment of dividends ' while Newhouse is in the East, but those who are in touch-with the situation say that they are quite sure that no time has been decided upon for the starting of the distributions dis-tributions to the shareholders. The reduction plant and mining property proper-ty of this company are in fine shape, and as the cost of production does not exceed 7 cents per pound, the company has a margin of something like 17 cents per pound on its output. Shaffer, the veteran prospector, prospec-tor, has returned to his home tn this city after a six months' trip across the desert des-ert of southern Nevada and southeastern Californta. During this time he has prospected pros-pected In a number of the new camps that are Just coming to light, and finally hit upon the. country lying about eighty miles south of Needles. Cal.. where he found practically a new district that has well-defined ledges of mammoth ore bodies carrying good values In gold, copper, cop-per, silver and iron. Mr. Shaffer says the country is known to but few people outside of the prospectors pros-pectors and ranchers in that country at the present time. In giving an account of the country, Shaffer said: "The showing is marvelous, and In all my years of mining I cannot recall a single instance when I have ever seen anything that would compare to this mineral belt. The copper ores all make into the sulphides, carrying gold and silver sil-ver values that do not average below $250 a ton. The large Iron-capped ledges which carry this vein matter are of tremendous tre-mendous size, and ran be seen along the mountain sides for a considerable distance. Reports of a sensational strike In the "The first great mineral belt that one observes runs in a southern direction from Needles In the Mount Whlpples. where you will find copper deposits. "Across the valley, eight mlle to the southwest, are the Arica mountains, where is located the Arica King mine, owned by the Gray boys, and the Brown mines. Here I found one of the most wonderful mineral deposits that I have run acrosaj in my long years of travel. This large vein risea out of th desert in the shape of a rainbow, and ihe ledge matter can be followed a distance of three miles across the base of the mountain, moun-tain, and carries high gold values from one' point to the other. The mineral xone is the full width of the mountain, and is traversed by, several large gold veins. The Gray boys are operating a three-stamp mill on the carbonate ores, while at a depth of 100 feet the formation has changed to a pyrite ore that carries 2 per cent copper and $50 to $200 in gold values. Again, at a depth of 1S5 feet, the whole mountain seemed to be making mak-ing into copper pyrite ore, earning high gold values. "Sixteen miles west of the Colorado river. I located my ground, and set stakes for myself and 'Salt Lake associates. associ-ates. I found the ore outcropping at intervals in-tervals for a distance of ten miles, and in places the ledge is 2000 feet In width, and the values are all in excess of $100 per ton. I located 8000 feet in length along the ledge of this great copper and gold deposit, and also took up a town-site town-site In the heart of the district In the pass of the Maries. Here I expect to make my last stand, for I'm positive that we have one of the greatest mining propositions in this country. We have an abundance of water, some fine ranches in the valley, a mild climate the year 'round that will afford us an opportunity to work the mines at all seasons, and plenty of fuel in the iron wood which covers the foothills. "Since returning, we have Incorporated our company under the laws of Wyoming, Wyom-ing, and our officials have subscribed several thousand dollars with which to give me all the equipment and supplies that I will need to develop the ground, and expose a tonnage that will give us ample capital for further operations and betterments as fast as the conditions Justify it.
