Show BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR OPENING OF FISHING SEASON The State Wardens Predict Ideal Conditions for Next Sunday. i BY W. J. SLOAN. Reports received from various parta of the state indicate that trout and baaa fishing In Utah will be better this year khan during any time in the past fifteen fif-teen yean. Information haa bean received about practically every stream in the state from the game wardens and others who are familiar with conditions and therefore In a position to give first hand Information. For the first time in many years there is every reason to believe that the streams of the state witl be elesr for the opening of the season, a week from tomorrow. While some of the streams may be a little high the water will be clear, making it ideal for fly fishing. Bait fishermen, however, will not welcome the clear water as much as tbev would if it were a little cloudy. Il is iromised. however, that there will be plenty of fish for everyone on tbe opening dav, and in the majority of esses it is expected that the limit allowed al-lowed bv law. fifteen pounds, will be rsugb', before noon. A week from today will see i gen era I exodus of fishermen from nil of tbe cities in the state. Kred W. ( ham hers, state fish and game commissioner, has issued instructions to all of Ins deputies to be on the streams a week from today and to arrest anvone who becomes so anxious to fish that lie or she cannot wait until tbe season opens, wbich will he at 3 o'clock next Sunday moraiug. Local dealers of fishing supplies say that thev expect the higgesf business during the coming week they have ever bad. Already the rush is oa, and it is safe to aav that there ia not a disciple of Uaak Walton in Kelt leaks t'itv who will not have his tackle in first class condition long before next Ssturdav. One of the streams of the slate which will likely be crowded with fishermen on the opening day is tbe Provo river. A apecial excursion will be run from Salt Lake City to Charleston, leaving this citv at midnight next Ssturdav. It is expected that at least 600 fishermen fisher-men will take advantage nf the low rate offered. Despite the large crowd that is expected to go to the canyon, It is said that there will be plenty of trout for all. Those who can get away for two or more days will make looge'r trips, some going to the headwaters of the Provo and Weber rivers, others to the Straw berry valley, and othera to Cache val lev. A few are planning to go to Fish lake, a trip that requires four days at least, if one ia to have two days' inning The information received bv tbis department de-partment ia to the effect that baas fish fng in Utah lake will be better this year than it has ever been. Tbe trout fishing in the lahe alao promises to be the best in years. Many Salt Lakera will go to the lake next Sunday feeling assured that if they fail to catch any trout or bass thev can r turn with a good mess of catfish. |
