Show NOTHING LESS THAN QUEEN. We read the other day of the marriage of the kaiser's daughter to I'rince Ernest Augustus Augus-tus of Cumberland and the wires tell us that the marriage reconciled a feud which had existed exist-ed between the Cumberland branch and the Hohenzollern branch of the empire for a long time, and another dispatch tells us that at the marriage the kaiser in toasting the bridal couple cou-ple at the wedding banquet insinuated that they soon would be called upon to assume the 'duties of sovereigns. It has been understood that it was the emperor's design to obliterate that kingdom and make that province simply a state of the German empire, but his daughter iss-to be first lady of that land and there have been hints heard, too, that when all the world could not move the kaiser in any of his fixed determinations deter-minations that Victoria Lui.se, his daughter, could go to him and make hrm do what she wanted to have done. So we suspect that before be-fore she agreed to marry this Prince Ernest Augustus she exacted a promise from the kaiser that she would be no petty duchess, that nothing less than a kingdom would do her, no coronet, but a diadem, and that chances are 1000 to 1 that she carries her point. |
