Show PRESIDENT OF OWLS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY SOUTH BEND, Ind., FVb. 21. John Talbot, auprema president. Order of Owls, and prominent attorney In South Fend, was arrested yesterday on an indictment chars In violation ot tha Mann act and conspiracy. The information on which the Indictment In-dictment wan returned waa furnlnhed by Mine Pearl Ha ley of Tope k a, Kan., who claims she was lured to South Bend and then forced to submit to terrible practices. She claims that before be-fore she could eacape from tha Owl hospital, in which, aha aJleffea, aha waa held and which ah refers to as tha houae of fear." Talbot and hia emissaries had clipped her hair ao aa to prevent her escape. After her escape, aha says, she appealed ap-pealed to tha sheriff to lock her In Jat for aafety. Her request was granted. Mrs. IVarl Fpannier, head nurse of the Owl hospltiilhas alto been arretted ar-retted on similar charges. She and Talbot were released on bonds of $5000. |
