Show Wilson Signs Winslow Bill Aiding Rails WASHINGTON, Feb. 2. President Wilson todsy approved the Winslow bill allowing Immediate payment to railroads of part of the funds due to them under the guarantee clause of the Esch-Cummlns transportation act. The bill waa passed by congress because be-cause of a treasury ruling that ths roods could not get the funds until a final accounting had been had with the government. Railroad officials said this might take several years and that they needed money Immediately. I.abor leaders In session here had asked the president to veto ths Winslow Wins-low bill, declaring It would result In the railroads getting vastly more than was dus them. Both the treasury and Interstate In-terstate commerce commission, however, how-ever, approved the bill. It was stated. The amount tha railroads will finally collect has been estimated at about I600.OOA.000. They will not get all this Immediately. |
