Show CHRISTIAN SCIENTIST -TALKS ON LIVING PROPERLY Professor Hering Speaks Before Be-fore Large Assembly at Auditorium "Christian Bclenoe The Hcience of Right Living." was the theme of a lecture delivered by Professor Hermann Her-mann 8. Herring. C. 8. B.. at the Auditorium Audi-torium last night. 1'rnfessor Hering Is a member of the board of leucture-ship leucture-ship of the mother church, the First Church of Christ. Scientist, of Boston,' Mshk. Irofessor Hering said: Today many thinking people are beginning to see as they have not seen before, that the healing work of the early church Is yet possible, although thls healing work rebukes the generally gener-ally accepted- supremacy of material law. They perceive that there Is such a thing as spiritual law, a law apart from physics; that I h la divine law Is and should be sovereign over so-called physical law; that It haa dominion over what la termed matter; and all this in spite of the bias of materialistic material-istic thought which declares that any existence apart from the material cannot can-not be conceived. It la encouraging that Christian peoples are beginning to awake pyL of their sleep ur.,1 ir. assort their right to the freedom and harmony of the children of God. SAME AS MASTER. "According to the Scriptural account, ac-count, the healing wrought by the Master and His disciples, was accomplished accom-plished through mental or spiritual meuns alone, that la through some action ac-tion of thought. Christian Science healing is brought about In the same wuy. In both, the healing principle and law are mental, and knowing this, we are led to examine Into the nature of mind and mind action. "Mind is evidently much more than mere human thought or limited consciousness con-sciousness since it includes the cause and phenomena of all existence. Christian Chris-tian Science temhes thst mind Is the infinite consciousness which expresses Itself as Ideas and ennatituteg all being; be-ing; the Intelligence and creative principle and substance of the universe; uni-verse; the basis of all manifestation and right thought, the absolute Truth. MAKES DISTINCTION. "We can thus distinguish between the real mind, the Infinite, spiritual. Immortal consciousness whlcH expresses ex-presses itself In perfect, indestructible harmonious Ideas, and the mind which include the heiief in mallei, evil, limitation, lim-itation, disease an.l death. This latter lat-ter therefore Is not real mind, but a f:ile concept of mind, the Adam dream whd h St. J'aul terms "the carnal mind which Is enmity against God," In other words. God's unlikeness or opposite l"aul also writes, "To be carnally minded mind-ed la death: but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." This carnal mind Christian Science further defines as "mortal mind," since It Includes all that la aires sinning, dlcordant and mortal. K la the Inversion or counterfeit counter-feit of the Immortal divine mind, and lis betraying characteristic Is flnitv as opposed to infinity; therefore, since I all that la real is infinite, all that Is finite is unreal, and these unreal beliefs be-liefs of the carnal mind have neither' ptuce. presence, nor power; any more thfn has the schoolboy s erroneous be-lief be-lief that two lima two mike five, rt is simply a false concept. Jt has no existence. . INFINITE MIND. Mrs. Kddy's supreme declaration Is this, that there is one infinite mind which tit wholly good, perfect. Indestructible, Inde-structible, immortal. This Infinite, absolute, omniscient, omnipresent, nmnliKWtent being m the incorporl Kuther-Moiher (Jod whose true nature is revealed through Christian Science. This divine actuality Is the scientific hasis on which all Christian Science hallng is demonstrated th nvin. tempted by the world, undismayed by tha weakness of the flesh, undsunted by the enmity of evil, held her true to her Ideal a nd brought her to the longed-for goal, the demonstrable work understanding; of the Christ-method, Christ-method, with unmistakable siffna following. principle whoae everpresence Is utilised util-ised in the overromiiiK of sin and alrk-ness, alrk-ness, through the available transforming transform-ing power of the Christ, coming to the human consciousness. "Christian Kcience explains the true nature of the divinely created man. as - not the man created of the dust of the around but as the Image and likeness like-ness of God, the man whom (Jod pronounced pro-nounced good and to whom He gave jomlnion over the earth. PERFECT NATURE. 'Tha perfect nature of Ood and the real man waa revealed to Mrs. Kddy. The Scriptures spiritually understood reveal this truth, and Mrs. Kddy first stated it In scientific and metaphysical metaphysi-cal terms whlrh. when understood, muke It possible for anyone to begin to demonstrate It. The creative prin-rlple prin-rlple operatea positively through divine law. It embraces and supports all real existence perfect tiod, perfect man, and perfect universe. "Hut If all reality is spiritual and perfect, there arises the question What of evil, material, discordant conditions?" Here Christian Science explains that because Spirit, the absolute abso-lute good. Is Infinite, everywhere, there can be no place for either evil or matter, mat-ter, and it therefore classifies all phenomena phe-nomena and all experiences which are unlike perfect Ood and perfect man aa unreal, aa false concepts projected by erroneous human sense, as untrue beliefs: and it austalna thia contention conten-tion by destroying these conditions, thus proving them untrue, for Truth Is indestructible. EXISTENCE INTACT. "It should be clearly seen that although al-though Christian Science demea matter mat-ter by revealing lis unreality, it does not destroy the sense of existence. The denial of matter doea not produce a blank, for matter cannot be effectually denied until the substance of Spirit has been clearly apprehended. The metaphysical process Involves a realization real-ization of Truth and a corresponding denial of error, a recognition of what Is real and actual, and a resulting perception per-ception of the Illusion of material appearance. ap-pearance. This brings about a change in the human consciousness, and this Improved quality of thought produces a more harmonious sense of existence. exist-ence. IMPROVES MORALLY. "Christian Science heading brings about not merely a physical change, but Improvee the patient morally mentally, and spiritually. It brings a man nearer to Ood and changea his standpoint from a maaprial to a spiritual spir-itual basis. It uplift, thought, gives him power over evil, and improves his whole being In the degree that he cap grape Ita truth. Mrs. Kddy's one objective through many yeara was to know ;od. to find the infinite source of good, to understand under-stand the true nature of being, that healing might some to burden-bearing humanity, liar aingle-mindcdneas, an- |
