Post j Hit-Runner Reward Offers Quicken Search for Driver of Death Car A reward-of $100 was posted Friday Fri-day by the Salt Lake Telegram and matched by Salt Lake City corporation for arrest and conviction convic-tion of the hit-run driver responsible respon-sible for the death early Tuesday of William Baldee, 75, of 1463 North Beck street. Hunt for the driver, who left his victim in the center of Beck street near Mr. Baldee's home, was spurred by the unusual offer. The Telegram's reward will be paid upon determination of a recipient re-cipient by Allen G. Thurman. presiding pre-siding Judge of Third district court, following arrest and conviction. Wallace announced an-nounced the city would match the sum and would pay 8100 for arrest and conviction in the case. The city's reward will come from the statutory and general fund. Mayor Wallace announced the reward as chairman of the city commission, after conferences with the city legal department concerning concern-ing legality of the offer. Police believed the automobile automo-bile that struck Mr.' Baldee was damaged. Mr. Baldee's death was the twentieth traffic fatality in Salt Lake City. He was the thirteenth pedestrian killed. |
