Blond "golden anger Mrs. Camp Lays Reno Trip To Wooing by Fritz Kuhn NEW YORK, Nov. 24 (UP) Fritz Rutin's "golden angel," blond Florence Camp, testified at hit grand larceny trial today that sha want to Reno in 1938 because tha German-American hnn1 loW ulnl her "to start divorce oroceedines." Mrs. Camp, on whom tha state' charges Kuhn spent money belonging belong-ing to the bund, was called as the first rebuttal witness after the defense had rested. Diminutive, pretty, and dressed In black, Mrs. Camp Identified the defendant, who a moment before had snubbed her In the corridor end who glared angrily at her as she testified. She said she met Kuhn on the S. S. Westernlsnd en route to Europe Eu-rope In February, 1938, and that he proposed marriage In a shipboard ship-board letter during the crossing. On her return she went to Reno, Nev., after taking leave of Kuhn In New York. He asked her, she testified, "to go back to Los Angeles and start divorce proceedings and have my furniture shipped here and he would take care of It." Kuhn previously had admitted paying 1717 in moving expenses for Mrs. Camp, but Insisted she paid him back. Mrs. Camp corroborated evidence evi-dence which the state had Introduced Intro-duced Wednesday In the form of passionate love letters written to her by Kuhn. The witness testified that she returned only S600 of the $717 moving bill and not all of It, as the defendant had testified. She also Identified a (240 ring which Kuhn had denied giving to her. Mrs. Camp vigorously denied testimony given earlier by Kuhn's associates that she was a "bund sympathizer." She said she had visited Camp Nordland, operated by the bund, with Kuhn In May, 1938, and that she had visited other bund camps. Kuhn once took her to the "German house" In Los Angeles, she said. Under Defense Attorney Peter L. T. Sabbatlno's questioning, Mrs. Camp said that she hsd S500 to 1600 with her when she went to Reno and that Kuhn had given her 1250 of It to go toward moving her furniture to New York later. Mrs. Camp said she met Arthur Robertson, a member of District Attorney Thomas E. Dewey's staff, socially in Miami, Fla. She said he asked her questions about Kuhn and subsequently Assistant District Dis-trict Attorney Herman J. McCarthy, McCar-thy, prosecutor of the case, visited and talked with her In Miami. |
