Slugger Suspect Partially Identified Women Victims Confront Man Arrested on Charge of Beatings, Robbings Police reported Tuesday a 33-year-old man wai partially identified as the bandit who ilugged and robbed five women in the vicinity of Seventh South and West Temple ttreet in the past several week. . ' The man, Corbett A. Wright of 718. South First West street wa partially identified, police said, by Mrs. Viola Gotnard. 47, of 740 Brazier Bra-zier court, who wa slugged November No-vember 26 she walked toward her home; Mrs. W. T. Chealey of 820 South West Temple street attacked at-tacked and robbed of 115.75 on December De-cember 18 at Ninth South and West Temple streets, and Mrs. I. J. Griggs of 809 West Eighth South street, who wa accosted at 820 South Second West street on December De-cember 11. . Wright was arrested Friday night by Detective Fred Lee and A. C. Randle. With four other men, he was shown to the slugging and robbery victims, and the three pointed him eut as the man who robbed them, the detective said. Mrs. Griggs was-the only one -of six victims who was not slugged. Her purse waa snatched aa she was knocking on the door of a friend. Other victim of a strong-arm purse matcher were Miss Iia Wright 21, of Ogden, slugged November No-vember 8; Mrs. Jacob Van Natta, 40, of 621 South West Temple street slugged December 2, and Mr. Isabella McDonald, 59, of 442 West Sixth South street, attacked December 16. Mrs. McDonald Tuesday was In "fairly good" condition con-dition at the Salt Lake General hospital, where she has been receiving re-ceiving treatment for a broken Jaw and other Injuries suffered when her assailant struck her. Other victim of the robber who also attended the "show-up" Tuesday Tues-day morning aaid they did not see the slugger clearly enough to be able to identify him. -. . |
