Wallace, who Tuesday retired as mayor of Salt Lake City and chairman of Its traffic commission, commis-sion, expressed appreciation to all who had assisted in the 1939 traffic safety accomplishments. In a statement for The Telegram, Tele-gram, Mr. Wallace said: "Our thanks are due to all who have assisted In reducing traffic accident and death figures for 1939. Our entire community Is grateful for the generous and untiring publicity pub-licity given by the Salt Lake newspapers news-papers and radio stations on behalf of traffic safety. "The record shows a most gratifying grati-fying change over previous years; traffic fatalities are th lowest for the past 15 years. Motor accidents are down about 20 per cent, with a corresponding downward trend in number of Injury and property damage accidents. "It Is probable that Salt Lake City will show the largest traffic fatality reduction of any city In our population class, a splendid record and one for which every organization organ-ization and every citizen should be thanked. It has been a fine example exam-ple of community spirit along purely pure-ly humanitarian lines." |
