Freddie Bartholomew, youthful eereesi star, Je Waltee WlncheOl's guest columnist today. WlnohWI is en mention. Tomorrow Edward G. Roblnsoa will be Wlnchell's Euest columnist. I Metro Goldwyn Mayer Sda i Culver City. CaL, ! U. S. A. ! " DearMfTWInchell: 1 I feel very Important getting to I write your column for you. I hope 1 'you like It, for I am actually writing It myself. My tutor is letting me writs it in school as a bit of "English "En-glish composition." If I may say so without being impertinent, I doubt If your column has ever come under that heading before and, of course, some people still may think not, after reading; this. I wonder if other people are Interested In-terested in some of the same questions ques-tions which I should like to ask you about I read your column and, of course, a great deal of It I don't understand, but I know you must be very good, because so many people peo-ple In Hollywood find out from your column things that are going on around them. How do you manage to get such news so quickly? Right now everything I think of I'm afraid you've heard already. think vny pereey-ealeHS-eievef f lasis, a you call it Last wee'.i M. G. M. allowed me to give a party at the studio, to which I invited all the girls and boys in pictures. There were about 60 of us, and, of course, we had a great time. I think this Is the first big children's party that has ever been given in a studio. You should have seen the executive bungalow when we got through With it! Another question I should like to ask you Is, how do you write such a personal eolumn without hurting people's feelings or do you? Right now I am afraid to mention any names for I may get sued. Speaking of suing do you know that by English En-glish law the person who loses a cass can be made, and usually is made, to pay the legal costs for both sides? I think that's an awfully good law, because it makea people very careful and they don't sue unless un-less they're pretty sure of winning. I am sorry I did not meet you when you were out here making your picture. You do a lot of things, don't you? When you die (my tutor aays that's a very abrupt way of putting It) how do you want to be remembered? As a gossip writer? As an actor? Or maybe as a maker-upper maker-upper of new words? I hope you say actor, because I am ambitious to be a writer and I hope I succeed with this column as well as you did in "Wake Up and Live." Do you have as much trouble with punctuation aa I do? Or do you Just refuse to worry and 1st your Girl Friday have the Joy(T) of doing it? Of course, since this Is an English composition, I'll get my punctuation corrected, and I think I'll copy It because I don't want you to aee the ope with all the red marks en It Writing a column Is like writing long letter to millions of people, tnstsad of one friend, Isn't It? I could write to you about my riding, swimming, motor glide, Reginald |
