Show 2 PILOTS KILLED IN RLIND FLIGHT CHICAGO, Feb. 27 (INS) Two army reserve pilots were killed today to-day shortly after they took off from the municipal airport hero la a "blind" flying experiment that ended end-ed In a crash five blocks from ths airport Tho two killed were Lieutenant John 8pako and Lieutenant Clyde Wood. Both were pilots for ths United Airline, but were on active duty with the U. S. army and flying an army plans. Cockpit Covered Ths two pilots took off from the airport in an army ship with a covering over the cockpit and were to make a test flight piloting by Instruments alone. Ten minutes after tho takeoff tho plane crashed In ths railroad yards a few blocks from tho airport air-port Both worn killed. The two filers, both Chicago n. were so badly mangled that it could not be determined which had been at tha controls of the low winged monoplane. That they had advance warning of their fate was indicated by the fact that tha ignition was burned off. Ths plans was shattered to bits on street railway tracks. |
