U. of U. Students Go Back To Ankle Socks When Spring Quarter Begins By BETTY WAUGH Gosh, I'm glad Easter only comes once a year. I'm so full of eggs and chocolate bunnies and Easter parades that Vm satisfied for another year. It's been fun. but isn't it nice to get back into ! saddle shoes and ankle socks again? Spring quarter Is my favorite quarter up at the University of Utah and It's doubly so this year because lots of awfully nice people are back at school. Including Jay Johnson of the Sigma Chit and Pat Langton of the PI Phis. Someone Some-one else I know you're all going to like la a newcomer to the campusTerry cam-pusTerry NowelL Terry Is a Kappa from Boulder and this Is her first quarter among the Utes, so show her some of that "U" spirit You'll know her by her air of sophistication so-phistication and charm. I suppose everybody has heard about the two special pin hangings at the Beta spring formal last week well, they are true, and are they special! Everyone was tbrt of expecting Bob Barker to turn his pin over to Amy Thomas and H was to cute the way they did It.-Bob hid Amy behind the door until the eventful moment came of taking all the girls who wear Beta pins into the song circle. Then he brought her out into the circle to be sung to. Exciting, huh? But the big surprise of the formal for-mal was when Hamer Culp, that elusive male, succumbed to the charms of Jody Billings and turned over his Independence to her In the form of his . pin. Everyone gasped when Hamer walked over to take Jody Into the circle. As soon as the song was over they dashed out to telegraph Jody'a brother, Pete, who is back at Harvard, Har-vard, and telephone her folks. The favors at the formal were certainly nice and something you can always use, too desk pen sets of chromium. Noticed Jack Pur-ton Pur-ton there with Margaret Palmer and Upie Ramsey with Marge Jel-lison. Jel-lison. And guets who came home to tell us about the Berkeley flood and go to the formal? Uh, huh, Joe Tyree. Joe took Margaret Robinson Rob-inson to the party. He hat to go back to school soon, but he's been having a wonderful vacation. Have you noticed the avalanche of roller skating we've had all of a sudden on the campus? It's really alarming. Next thing you know somebody Is going to bring some Jacks and then we'll really have tun! Will the person or persons who tit next to Jake Weiss in his varum va-rum occasionally during lectures? Jake has the darndest habit of going go-ing to sleep. It isn't that he doesn't go to bed at nights he Just likes to sleep, that's all, but I'm afraid it's going to affect his marks if he Isn't wakened once in a while. Now that the quarter has begun the gals are taking horseback riding rid-ing again and there's a profusion of riding habits around. Helen Torkelson looks especially nice in her outfit, have you noticed? Someone else who't back at school is Gene Glenn Jr. Gene had his appendix out but he's feeling feel-ing fine now and ready to tackle a little geology and stuff. I can hardly wait to see the frosh plsy, "Stage Door." Besides its being one of the smartest comedies on hand, it's going to be fun because be-cause all the girls are dyeing their hair black. They plan to go around school with their ebony locks for a few dayt just to get the feel of their character, so if you're looking look-ing for your best gal and can't find her, stop and think "is she in the frosh play?" If she is, your , problem is solved. Your little blond is a sirenish brunette these days. See you on the campus. i
