Show NEW ORDINANCE EFFECTIVE SOON No Warning Period for Careless Drivers Msyor Ab Jenkins said Thursday he expected enforcement of the revised careless driving ordinance would begin by Monday. There will be no warning period, ha said. The ordinance was to be published pub-lished Thursday and thereby become be-come effective. Enforcement, the mayor Indicated, is to begin when the police department receives copies of the official publication, ordinarily a few days later. The revised ordinance, described as an educational and corrective rather than penal measure, permits per-mits motorists receiving careless driving tickets to pay the police desk sergeant $1 and thereby end the case, although they have the alternative of stsnding trial. The original ordinance provided a maximum max-imum penalty of 825 and 10 days in jail, but the penal provision was eliminated. |
