Show Unbeaten Cage Leaders Clash In Feature California Games SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 25 (UP) Spotless records In two basketball bas-ketball conference titular chases in California are certain to be smeared this week, when pace-setters meet. In th Pacific Coast conference, southern division, U. S. C, boasting four wins In as many conference starts, and Stanford, defending champion and winner of three games to date, clash at Los Angeles Friday and Saturday. In the new Northern California conference, St. Mary's, like U. S. C, victorious in four games, and Santa Clara, unbeaten in three, meet Friday Fri-day in San Francisco. The southern division conference also presents U. C. L. A. and University Uni-versity of California battling at Berkeley Friday and Saturday to climb out of the cellar, while the Northern California conference has Santa Clara and College of Pacific meeting Tuesday at Stockton and U. S. F. and Pacific playing here Saturday. In a pair of Interconferenc game Saturday night California defeated Santa Clara, 46-44. and Stanford beat St. Mary's, 50-23. U. 8. F. won third place in the Northern North-ern California conference by defeating defeat-ing San Joe State, 40-35. In other gamea Saturday night San Francisco Stat defeated Humboldt Hum-boldt Stat, 30-28; Chice Stat defeated de-feated Nevada, 21-17; U. S. C. trimmed Loyola, 31-18; Washington, leader in th northern division of the Coast conference, defeated Oregon Ore-gon State, 38-28; University of Oregon, Ore-gon, runner-up to Washington, beat Idaho, 31-29, and Modesto J. C beat Santa Rose U. C, 31-21. |
