Show SMOOT AMD DALY IN STREET DEBATE Senator Reed Smoot and P. J. Daly were the center of a large group of politicians pol-iticians on West Second South street Wednesday at the noon hour. The question of American party motives, the voting of its members and the general gen-eral situation came in for their share of the discussion. The meeting of these two prominent leaders was apparently planned by neither of them. The exact spot on which they found each other Is but a few paces east of the entrance to the Republican State headquarters build- Ing. Their first greetings were most friendly but gradually their arguments waxed exceedingly, warm. The smile on Smoot's face such a smile as is only his and the- earnestness earnest-ness of expression on P. J. Daly's face were fair criterions to the crowd, which was largely Republican, that the arguments argu-ments were In favor of the Senator. "Go to it. Reed," said those who were close to the argumentative pair. "You're right, P. J.,- said the American's Amer-ican's friends. The arguments continued. The crowd came and went. They stiU kept on, each feeling that the weight of the debate de-bate was his own. At last reports Reed was still smiling smil-ing and Daly was becoming more and more heated in his arguments. |
