Show CHALLENGER WAS EJECTED FROM THE POLLS BY DEPUTY SHERIFF Many residents of North Point are Indignant over the placing of deputy sheriffs at the polls there Tuesday. They assert that they are peaceable and law-abiding and that officers were not needed at the voting place. Charles Glllmore of North Point was in the city Wednesday and made the following statement: 'I was appointed by Chairman Thomas of the Democratic party as a watcher and challenger at the polls and had my credentials. When I attempted at-tempted to do my duty young Mr. Fernstrom and the deputy sheriffs refused re-fused to allow me to act. I came back to the city, got a letter from Mr. Thomas to the Judges and got creden- tials from Chairman Nye of the Ameri-I Ameri-I can party. Then they allowed me to I stay at the polls Until closing time, when they told me' I must go. . I cited the law to them and. refused, to leave. Then Deputy Sheriff Butler took me by the arm and forcibly ejected me from the building. The law says that the two leading parties are entitled to representation while the votes are being be-ing counted. "I call it a high-handed outrage. The citizens of North Point will not submit sub-mit to such treatment" - |
