Show ' DEATH TAKES DR.VITGHER SSPSBSiSBBSBSSSBSSBBBSSS Wcll-Known Physician Dies Suddenly From . Gastric Fever. . Dr. J. S. Witcher. on of the best-known best-known of Salt Lake's physicians, died st an early hour this morning at the Holy Cross hospital of hemorrhage of the stomach, caused by gastric fever. Dr. Wltcher's death was a shocking surprise to his friends here, and almost entirely unexpected by . his attendants. He Is survived by his widows a daughter of Judge C. S. Zane, and a daughter, Zane Witcher, 4 years old. In the death of Dr. Witcher. the poor and needy of Salt Lake lose a friend whose kindness of heart and whose generosity were proverbial. In no case where the persons visited were unable to ' pay, or where they were at all needy, has he ever collected a fee or made a charge. Many times when poor persons asked his services and he knew full well that he would never be remunerated, he has declined to attend more fortunate persons per-sons where the fee was certain. He was physician to the Fire depart- j roent for the past five years. The arrangements for the funeral have not been made. Dr. Witcher was 37 years old, and was a son of Paymaster-General 3. 8. Witcher. United States army, retired, who Is on his way here from his home In Oakland, CaL. to attend the funeral. |
