Commander Frederick Booth-Tucker delivered 'a pathetic and powerful lecture lec-ture on "Love and Sorrow" at the Salt Lake Theater yesterday afternoon. - This lecture is the famous illustrated lecture which the late Consul Emma Booth-Tucker has given so many times. There was only a small attendance atghe Theater, but Interest and appreciation appre-ciation ran high among the few present pres-ent x ' The lecture is a vivid illustration of the work of rescue- and reform the Army Is doing among the inhabitants of the slums of our large cities. Commander- Booth-Tucker ' outlined his tremendous sociological scheme, which has already been started by the Army In its farm colonies in Colorado and California, . By this plan families are enabled in time to become the possessors of farms worth from $2000 to $5000. The colonization bill Introduced Into Congress by Senator Hoar was drafted by Commander Booth-Tucker. . It is not essentially a Salvation Array measure, but Is intended to benefit all prospective settlers on the public domain. The commander gave statistics showing show-ing that this Army will expend $800,000 this year in assisting the poor of America Amer-ica to better their condition. A considerable portion of the lecture was also devoted to the rescue work among degraded women and the founding found-ing of orphanages and summer homes. The work of the inquiry bureau which finds missing relatives of poor people was also explained. |
