Show FIGHTING SMALLPOX Board of Health Is Using Every Effort to Conquer Con-quer Dread Disease. There are forty cases of smallpox in the city and at the quarantine hospital Twenty-seven cases are at the isolation hospital, and few empty rooms are left there. Two new cases were reported to the office of the Board of Health this morning. morn-ing. They are Charles Burt, aged 20, of Fifth and I streets, and Fred Harris, aged 20. living at ES3 Fifth street Both have had cases and Drill be taken out to the pesthouse. City Health Commissioner C F. Wilcox Wil-cox said tht morning in speaking of the situation: "We . have smallpox simply because the people refuse to be vaccinated. I know of instances where this has been demonstrated beyond a doubt to be true. In one family, about three weeks ago, one of the members was taken down with the disease. He was removed to tha quarantine hospital and1 the rest of the family restricted. They refused to be vaccinated and there are now two who are ill. with the disease and, I understand, un-derstand, one more is ailing. So that in many instances the people have no one to blame but themselves. I think that the quarantine regulations are being observed strictly In the city, and do not think the contagion comes from this source." In accordance with an order given by Dr. Wilcox on Saturday, W J. Of 112 persons questioned only twelve were i found who had never been vaccinated.
