There were few stocks traded in and those which did reoelve attention at-tention were almost without exception hammered by ths bears until prices fell , off terribly. Apparently the exchange t annot stand mors than one day a week when prices are strong. The" lead smelter of the United States Mining company is practically ready to go Into commission and will be blown In next 'week If nothing untoward happens. All the work which remains to be done ia some minor adjustments which may be easily attended to. The roasters were warmed up Monday in the presence of Manager Walter Fitch and a number of other officers of the company, and when the week's preparation Is over the United States company will be running the plant In full fbl&at- The bins at the smelter are filled to ths brim with ore and it Is sure that enough contracts have been signed with mine op-. op-. . era tors In this State and Nevada to keep the furnaces busy continuously. .It is understood un-derstood that most of these contracts have been very liberal with the producer. ' . and ths competition between the United States smelter and the American Smelting and Refining company has been very , spirited. There are many rumor, involving ths sale or acquisition of the control ef the United States company and the deal is expected to come to a head within the . next week. The, gn esse rs are about evenly even-ly divided as to whether the purchasing company will be the Amalgamated or the American Smelting and Refining com-1 com-1 pany. It seems likely that it la the latter, lat-ter, however, as the American has had a monopoly on the treatment of lead ore. In the past and doesvnot relish the competition com-petition caused by the entry of the United Unit-ed State, lead smelter in this field. WORK DELAYED. , The Installing of the additional machin ery at ths Ohio Copper company's mill at Bingham, has bean greatly delayed by . the caving of the old dutnp. This old dump was being partially cleared away to make the necessary grade and the material ma-terial thus displaced was to have been used as ballast by the Copper Belt railroad.- The road, however, having taken all the rock needed by it. ceased to haul ths material away and after the weather had acted on the wall of the-dump for some time It gave way and came down. It is rapidly being cleared up, however, and the additions to the mill will soon be completed. LOWES, MAMMOTH BEPOBT. ' Ths annual meeting of the Lower Mam-. Mam-. moth was held in this city Monday afternoon. after-noon. A complete report of the actions of the company for the past year was , road and the company was ehown to be about $19,000 In debt. This amount include, in-clude, the settlement of ths Black Jack suit. The assessment which Is now pending pend-ing has not as yet been used at all. and will reduce the indebtedness by $7500. There was only one change in the board of directors, Snyder Bamberger taking the place of Hugh Park. The board has not as yet elected officers, ut will do so within ths next few day. The property is looking better now than at ' any time for many yean, and ths management man-agement has every hope of making it a winner. The company .hipped $16,000 . worth of ore during the year. The board t director, consists of Simon Bamberger, Svdney Bamberger, who is also manager, V. S. McCotnick. H. G. McMillan, A. C. Kills, E. H. Smith and John Dern. WILL PASS DIVIDEND. It la now virtually an established fact that the Mammoth of Tlntic will pass the usual dividend for the month of January. The work of opening up the ore bodies on the 2100-foot level has not progressed far enough to allow many man to work In that portion of the mine and consequently the shipments ship-ments have not been as large or as 7 numerous during December as usuaL The holidays have also kept down production. pro-duction. It Is probable. If nothing out of the ordinary happens during the ' month of January, , that the dividend win be resumed . la February. The |
