SLOWLY, BUT SURELY, EVENTS HAVE BEEN SHAPING THEMSELVES TO THIS END. There have been many drawbacks and- disappointments, disap-pointments, but the march of progress, though checked, cannot be entirely stopped. Before many weeks of the New York have goM by,' the Iong-wished-fdr line of railroads between Salt Lake and the Southern coast of California will hare been completed, affording a new . channel of trade and commerce. Salt Lake's benefits from this will come in many ways, if the opportunities, but he taken advantage of, and there are certain unmistakable unmis-takable evidences lhat this will be done. . Not in one day nor in one week, nor eren a year, can every real-: real-: ization be fulfilled; but it is certain that many new enterprises will' hare their birth and being in the year to come and Salt Lake WTILL BE FULLY PREPARED TO EXTEND HER TRADE AND INFLUENCE INTO THE NEW COUNTRY TO BE OPENED. A long stride has already been made in the direction direc-tion of street and sidewalk paving, the lack of which has been a serious drawback to the city. During the coming year there is little doubt but that much more work will be done in this' direction. The sewer system sys-tem has also been greatly extended and municipal improvement appears to have taken firm root. . Encouraging reports come of two other railroads, the construction of 4 which will be well under way during the coming year. WITH SUCH AN OUTLOOK CAN IT BE DOUBTED THAT SALT LAKE CITY WILL TAKE-ON NEW LIFE AND FLOURISH IN'1903 AS SHE NEVER FLOURISHED BEFORE? United, consistent, unremitting effort will remove re-move mountain of obstacles. Salt Lake City has the location, the environments and the tributary territory to make a great city.
