BURGLARS STILL ACTIVE; SUB-STATION IS ENTERED The wave of attempted and accomplished accom-plished burglaries that has been sweeping sweep-ing over the city for the last two months has not yet been checked by the police. Four daring attempts, is the record for Tuesday night The grocery store of J. H. Preece & Co 669 South West Temple street was entered during the night by burglars, who made a systematic search of the building for valuables. The postal sub-station room in the( tore was also entered and the money drawer was opened, but with no result The receipts of the day In the sub-station were transferred to the safe upon closing the office for the night No attempt at-tempt was made to open the safe. The cash register of the store was also opened, but the burglars secured nothing. noth-ing. ' Entrance to the store was gained by cutting away a panel - from the rear door. This burglary was .reported to the Federal authorities and prompt and effective ef-fective action may be expected In the matter. An attempt partly successful, was made upon the National Tea Importing company's store at Third South and Main streets. A large window was smashed and goods valued at 225 were taken from the display In the show window. The goods stolen comprised vases, ornamental Jardinieres, Jar-dinieres, cut glass and several pounds of coffee. Burglars pried open the window of the store of J. G. Morrison, No. 470 South First West, but were frightened away before getting anything. At the store of Mrs. Kendall, across the street they got In and threw a pickle barrel through the front door, but were scared away. Another attempted burglary that was thwarted was at the store of Mrs. A. Butterworth, told of elsewhere in The Telegram. |
