Show WATKINS IS HELD v ON FORGERY CHARGE James F.' Watklns, arrested Tuesday by Patrolman Barlow, la. alleged to have committed one of the cleverest forgeries ever discovered in Salt Lake. Watklns Is alleged to have gone to Dayton'a drug store and asked to look at some fountain pen a He examined several and asked Dayton to show him how they worked. Dayton took a pen, and among other things wrote his name. Watklns is alleged to have taken the crumpled paper on which Dayton wrote, and put It in his pocket He paid for the fountain pen and left the store. An hour later Watklns is alleged to have called at Groshell's ticket office and tendered a check for $30 in payment for a railroad ticket. Groshell was suspicious and would not cash the check, which was on Dayton, and notffied Patrolman Joe Barlow, who arrested Watklns. He had the check In hie possession. It is said, at the time of his arrest. |
