Show ODD CONDUCT OF A FEDERAL JUROR PORTLAND, Or., Jan. 25. Considerable mystery surrounds the sudden discharge from duty of Carl Phelps, secretary of the Federal grand Jury. Friday Phelps requested to be excused from duty for the day. He then disappeared and nothing was known of his whereabouts until Monday, when he was found In his room by officers who were searching for him. Yesterday it was said that at the request of the other members of the Jury, Phelps was paid the money due him for his services ser-vices as grand Juryman and ordered to return to his home and remain there under un-der pain of the displeasure of the t'nlted States District court. |
