Show Han '.Who Killed. James Lynch Said to Have Confessed to Officers. - OGDEN, Nov. 17. Wllllarn, G. Hobson, arrested Wednesday at Preston, Ida., is said to have confessed to the murder of James Lynch, who was shot to death in a freight car the night of November 2. According to Hobson's story he and Lynch were riding together'ln a lumber tar, beating their way from Cache Junction Junc-tion to Brigham City. The men had been telling euoh other of their travels, when, according to Hobson's story, Lynch attempted at-tempted to rob him. .. - He told Lynch to keep away from him, and when thi man persisted and threatened threat-ened him. Hobson pulled a 45-callber Colt revolver and shot him. Hobson, then, according to his reputed confession, turned the body over and placed a coat over the man's head. At Hrigham City he left the train and bought a ticket to Pocatello, staying there with his brother a few days and then going go-ing to his home in Preston. Hobson claims to have made up his mind to come to Ogden and give himself up. before he was arrested. He claims that the shooting was done entirely in self-defense. , He has lived in Preston. Ida., about two years, tending bar In different saloons, and this is said to be the first trouble he has ever been in. City Marshal Meacham of Preston arrested ar-rested the man, and turned him over to Deputv Sheriffs Sebring and Belnap, who arrived here with fclm at 7 30 o'clock this morning. |
