Show SPRIGGIS NOMRATA Chamberlain Cordially Received Re-ceived at Capetown, but Premier is Hooted. ! CAPETOWN. Feb. 18.-Colonlal Secretary Secre-tary Chamberlain and his party arrived today and met with a hearty reception from a . crowd of about 10,000 persons awaiting them In Green Market Square. A number of addresses were presented to Mr. Chamberlain. During the reading of one of these Prime Minister Sprlgg arrived ar-rived on the platform and waa hooted with much vigor. Mr. Chamberlain, in the course of his speech, made a powerful appeal for the union of th races. He admitted, however, how-ever, that since his arrival in Cape Colony he had become lea hopeful of immediate satisfactory results from his visit as he found that the antagonism of the two races had becomn chronic. Rebellion was exalted into heroism and loyalty was discountenanced dis-countenanced and ostracised, even the pulpit joining in th propaganda tending to Intensify the separation of the races. Ou leaving the platform Premier Sprigg was again mad the subject of a hostile demonstration. |
