Show BOOZE BILL DEAD AGAIN Resurrection of v Bamberger's Bamber-ger's Measure Proves SliortLIved.: Having peremptorily settled the ques- tlon of the Idaho junket on Monday, the Senate worked peacefully yesterday, undisturbed un-disturbed by the wrangle which the subject occasioned in the lower house. Only three new measures were introduced, intro-duced, the time of the Senate being occupied oc-cupied almost entirely' by the consideration consid-eration of committee report and the second and third reading of bills. Bamberger's "booze bill." providing for the treatment of habitual drunkards drunk-ards at county expense, died a second time, after being taken out of its grave and reconsidered under special order. Only nine Senators could be found who favored the passage of the measure, one less than a majority. Whether it will be again revived does not yet appear. ap-pear. , Senate bill No. 44, making the killing of stock by railroad companies prima facie evidence of negligence was killed. The measure providing for holdover Councllmen in cities was passed unanimously, unan-imously, as was Gardner's bill to es- Uabllsh experimental farms for the arid nd norf-lrrigated sections of the State. The Senate accepted the adverse report re-port of the Committee on Mines an Minerals on Senator Barnes bill providing pro-viding for semi-annual reports from mining companies to be filed with the Secretary of State, and on Senator C. P. Larsen's bill creating the office of Inspectors In-spectors for metalliferous mines. The new measures Introduced were: Bill No. 122. introduced by Senator Lawrence, provides for a change in the time when the County Treasurers shall take office from the first Monday in January to the first Monday in April. The Intention Is to give the Treasurer more time to prepare for taking charge of the office. Bill No. 123, Introduced by Senator Johnson, is Intended to prevent insuring insur-ing the lives of children under the age of 15 years. Senator Johnson explains that there is an agitation caused by the fact that mothers in some parts of the country have been known to take out large policies on the lives of young children' and then connive at their death. Bill No. 124. Introduced by Senator Lewis, is intended to more clearly define de-fine the duties of Boards of County Commissioners relating to public printing. |
