Show PRESIDENT SPEAKS AT CALIFORNIA CAPITAL. SACRAMENTO, ' Cal.. May 20.-Presl-dent Rooseveft arrived In Sacramento last evening and was met by Gov. Parttee and Mayor Clark and the citizens' committee. At the railroad station he was greeted by one of the larges crowds ever seen on a similar occasion in Sacramento. Followed Fol-lowed by several carriages filled with citizens and preceded by a tally-ho filled with musft-ians, the President drove from the depot to the grand stand, which was crowded with school children, who presented pre-sented a pretty appearance, each of the several thousand little ones waving an American flag. The, President was evidently evi-dently Impressed with the scene, for he raised his hat to the little ones in gracious recognition of their hrty cheers. After the review of the school children President Roosevelt drove to the Sutter club, where he dined. After dinner he drove to the State capltol building, where he had a brief informal talk with Gov. Pardee and other distinguished citizens. The Governor's reception over. President Roosevelt stepped out upon the rostrum erected on the east front of the- capitol buildlng and delivered an address to. the assembled citizens. Thousands were present pres-ent and the greatest enthusiasm prevailed. At the conclusion of his remarks, the President drove to his train at the depot and later started on his Journey toward Portland. |
