Show j TROUBLE IN OPENING FIRE ALARM BOX, CAUSES DELAY The fire was first seen by Patrolman Joseph Bush, who thought It to be the flames from the. stacks of the Utah Light A Power company's plant In the rear of the building. 1 This stack emits a glare of flame when the plant Is being be-ing fired up, and but for the volume of smoke which followed the flame, the patrolman would have been deceived. As soon as he saw that It was a fire, he ran to the nearest alarm box and turned In a general alarm. He found, when endeavoring to open the fire alarm box to turn In the alarm, that he could not open It, as his key would not fit. After a short delay, he succeeded suc-ceeded in opening the box and sent In the alarm. Fire Chief Devine was at his home, but went to the fire as soon as he was notified. It is said that a number of patrolmen have had trouble in opening, fire alarm boxes, the locks failing to work properly. |
