The directors of the Provo Woolen mills held a meeting in this city during dur-ing the week. The Wilkes Cycle company has moved from 134 South Main street Into larger quarters at 21 East Firsf South street. The F. E. McGurrln company, mortgage mort-gage loans, has moved from 22 West Second South street, where It has been temporarily since the Atlas block fire, to 134 South Main street. Gray Brothers, the clothiers, purpose to have one of the finest haberdashery stores In the whole West. They will move about August 1st. from their present quarters at 122 Main street to the fine store building now occupied by the Leyson "Jewelry company at 164 South Main street. It Is their Intention to carry a fine line of gent's furnishings and nothing else, and they are getting rid of their children's cJothing with that end in view. , The Uncle Sam mine is Improving every day. There are a number of fine faces of ore now exposed in the workings. work-ings. A nice chute of ore has also been uncovered in the Humbug belonging to the same company. The Utah Automobile company Is a new enterprise that has been launched in Salt Lake. ,The firm, which has Utah and Colorado capital behind it, will have headquarters at 21 East First South street. It will carry the "Pierce" and the "Cadillac" machines, the first shipment of which will arrive here about the 20th of the month. Later, on the company will have an automobile livery and will rent the machines by the day or the hour. The Deseret National bank paid its usual 3 per cent quarterly dividend last week. The money market in Salt Lake, says John O. Cutler, Jr., holds somewhat firm In rates with plenty of funds for all good borrowers. The Greeley Sugar company pays Its first annual 7 per cent diyldend this month. . The dissolution of partnership sale, which for some time has been going on at the place of business of the McCon-ahay-Sharp Jewelry company on West Second South, has been concluded. The business is now being conducted by Mr. McConahay under the old firm name. Work on the $45,009 building being erected on the south side of West Third South midway between Main and West Temple streets, by Miss Katfe Judge. Is progressing rapidly. The basement walls are completed and a gang of workmen Is today putting In the foundations foun-dations for the piers. When the building build-ing is completed It will be occupied by the Greenewald Furniture company. The work of reflttlng-the building at 268 South Main street for -Berets and Guthrie, who will use It as a restaurant. Is nearly completed. The restaurant men are moving ineir iurnuure in today to-day and expect to open for business Wednesday. Mrs. C. J. Gustaveson has purchased through Harrington & Courtney a five acre tract situated at Thirteenth South and Seventh East streets from James Booth for a consideration of $4625. There is a fine flowing well on the property prop-erty and it is the intention of Mrs. Gustaveson to have several ponds constructed con-structed for the purpose of raising trout and frogs for the market. Aaron Keysor has purchased two pieces of property in the eastern part of the city for $2300. One lot on the corner of Seventh and F streets has a ten-room house on It, the other on the j corner of Sixth and K is unimproved. There has been a pronounced activity In building circles during the week. Everyone seems anxious to take advantage ad-vantage of the fine weather to advance work. Many of the contractors, are having trouble on account of the non-arrival non-arrival of building material from the East The local firms which supply the fcrlck are keeping up with the situation well although the demands that have been made on them are heavy indeed. It is estimated that fully 200,000 brick are being used dally on the buildings i now in course of construction. Grading has been commenced on the property at the northwest corner of Fourth South and State and is progressing pro-gressing rapidly. As soon as it is completed com-pleted the work of erecting a three-story three-story building with store space on the ground floor will be commenced by Albert Al-bert Fisher. Architect Hale is preparing plans for the new building, soon to be erected by the Telephone company on the. lot adjoining ad-joining the police station. It is thought the plans will be ready soon when the work will be begun. The coming week will probably see building operations commenced on the new five-story Strevell-Pattersen building, build-ing, which is to be built on the property immediately west of the postofBce. Plans for the building to replace the Atlas block are now in course of preparation pre-paration and will probably be completed com-pleted soon. The owners of the property prop-erty are anxious to have the building erected as soon as possible so have put a gang of concrete men to work preparing pre-paring the foundations under the direction direc-tion of the architects. |
