Show DONALDSON ARRESTED IN HOT SPRINGS, ARK. Jim Donaldson, who is wanted in this city to snswer to the charge of gTand larcenv, it being alleged that he was one of the men who was implicated in the alleged robbery of the McWhirter brothers in this city about the middle of last month, has been arrested at Hot Sprin n, Ark. - The arrest was made by Deputy Sheriff Joe Sharp, who has been following Donaldson most of the time sinca'he left Salt Lake. -' Sheriff Emery also had a hand in the chase for the missing man, and went as far east as Chicago. Later the Sheriff returned to Salt Lake, but Sharp continued on the trail of the missing man. Had a Companion. According to the information received re-ceived in this city, the arrest was made by Sharp last Monday. Donaldson and a young woman, said to be Effie Fay, a former resident of this city,' were arrested ar-rested in a cottage near the outskirts of the Arkansas city. According to press dispatches received re-ceived in this city, Donaldson stated that he was willing, to. return without requisition papers. The dispatch also states that Donaldson and the woman had been at Hot Springs for about two weeks. Will Arrive Tomorrow. Sharp and Donaldson left Hot Springs Monday, and should arrive here Thursday morning. The following dispatch from Hot Springs tells the story: HOT SPRINGS, Ark., Oct. 16. James Donaldson, alias Billy James, wanted in Salt Lake City, oq the charge of swindling two men out of $8000, was arrested here Monday night and started to Salt Lake the same evening. Joseph Sharp, a deputy sheriff, followed Don-sldson Don-sldson to this city and soon located him ,and in connection with local officers. arrested nim. Donaldson and a very attractive and stylish looking woman have been in the city a little over fwo weeks, and have been occupying a cottage, cot-tage, where they were living in stvle. The rum of $1123 was found on Con-aldson. Con-aldson. The accused voluntarily agreed to return re-turn without requisition papers and signed a formal statement to thia effect ef-fect before Justice Suddeth. The deputy dep-uty sheriff left with the man and woman wo-man on Monday night 'a train, two hours after his arrest. The alleged fugitive is well known to the officers here, and at one time was manager of an upstairs gambling-room. His principal occupation is said to be the manufacture of roulette wheels which can be manipulated bv the operator. oper-ator. He had ordered two of these wheels shipped to him here, but wired after his arrest to have them diverted and returned to Salt Lake. Donaldson claims that the charges against him grew out of a political conspiracy and that he will be able to defeat them. Sheriff Emery said this afternoon that Deputy Sharp would arrive here Friday morning with Donaldson and the woman who was with him at Hot Springs. |
