Show Judge is as bright as a dollar; he makes a winsome speech; as nearly as he can he makes "the worse appear ap-pear the better reason,"? and there is a breezy cheerfulness cheer-fulness about the way he periodically goes down to defeat, that is a source of constant appreciation on the part of both friends and political foes. If he and Judge "WTxitecotton conclude to stump the State together then it "will be good for the farmers farm-ers in the lowlands to see that their crops are secured against any sparks that may fly off from these two torchlight processions. - , The beauty "of Judge Powers campaigns always is that he goes .with the same enthusiasm to defeat that other men do to victory. His good nature and : enthusiasm are contagious. He generally works himself him-self up to the belief before election day that he is going go-ing to be elected, and when the inevitable comes he does not sulk, but tells people with "a smile that he only went out as a saDDer and miner to Tnnltfi as much impression as possible on the walls and with the expectation of his being knocked out in the assault.. as-sault.. '-.'...' Another beauty about Judge Powers is that he goes into a fight for a friend with the same enthusiasm enthu-siasm that he does for himself. When there was not a shadow of a hope for success he was the same way. The writer of this distinctly remembers that for two weeks he gave his time, his talents, his inexhaustible inexhausti-ble energy and a lot of his money to securing a special spe-cial train to go up and down the State Vith a band of martyrs, he at the head like a new John the Baptist, Bap-tist, proclaiming that th"e day of deliverance for Utah, was at hand, when the lion and the lamb should lie down together, and his smile was just as sanguine, his voice just as cheery as though he did not know in that particular year of our Lord, when the lying down came, the lamb would be inside the. lion. We hope he will have a good time in this campaign. cam-paign. If it would do him any 'good we would hope that this time, victory would smile on his banner, except ex-cept that he is like the poor canine whose name was "Tray," a most worthy dog, but ruined by the bad company that he kept. TOE CANDIDACT OF JUDGE POWERS. ' We are glad to see that Judge Powers has again received the nomination for- Congress. It will add 'both, dignity. and hilarity to the campaign, 'for the -''"'' . i '- ' ' ' . . ' . f |
