Show THL PRESIDENT. . An Italian newspaper gives an estimate of Presi-; Presi-; dent Roosevelt. It says he occupies a place in ' American life not only greater than any other ,v American statesman, but quite unique, as the only great American now living who knows his country ; as a whole; that his studies to know all sections of j the country and the dispositions of the people have ' . - given him a -wisdom in suggesting and directing ! measures for. the common weal that is unequalled i' by any other of his colleagues in the work of gov- 4 fernment. , , . ' ' That is partly true, but only in part. The secret : of President Eoosevelt's fame lies in the fact tha.t he ' is an honest man and that he is brave enough to do : rjght at all times as God gives him to see the right. f He is even brave enough to confess when he knows . he has been mistaken, and his courage is so endur- ing that if he fails once he goes back and tries it ' over. '" '- Whether he can maintain his mastery over the ; affections of the American people "until his term : expires no one can tell, but it is true that if he were ' to be called suddenly from the'earth, the grief that : would follow him to the grave would be greater i than was ever manifested .before for any person who , vpr died in this countrv. |
