Secretary of War, delivered deliv-ered the v final address In the Dodge foundation course of Vale 'last night, on "The Responsibilities of Citiien- ship." He treated the subject from ttib standpoint of the national executive. Following the address a large recep- ! tion was riven to Mr. Taft by Preeldn4 Hadley.and the faculty of Tale. . Preliminary to his address Judge Taft referred to sensational newspaper attacks, at-tacks, upon public men and unwarrant-ed unwarrant-ed press hostility and misrepresentation of policies of a national administrate. He said that in general such attacks did little harm. He paid a high tribute to the news correspondents resident in Washington, and said that the" amount of attention given to them by administrative circles cir-cles and even by the President himself would amaze the public Of legislation he said: i "It is encouraging to men close to headquarters In Washington to find how much less Influential private Interests In-terests are In securing beneficial legislation legis-lation for themselves than Is generally held to be the case. Speaking generally gener-ally the people In the end get the kind of legislation they want, although it sometimes takes one or two or three Congresses to reach it." Toward the conclusion of his address. Judge Taft paid a glowing tribute to the efficacy of the civil service in Washington. |
