Show San Josa Fortunate. BAN JOSE. Cal., May J San Jose vu not badly damaged by the recent earthquake, aa waa at flrat reported. There waa no Inundation Inunda-tion of any kind. Only a few bullrtlnga will have to be entirely rebuilt and only two were de.troyed by lire. A great many "buildings were damaged by the ahuck, but can eailly be repaired. Plata glass waa shattered In the fronts of many business houaea, and brick . chlninej s have suffered quite generally In tha residence portions of the city; but repairs ara progressing rapidly, and In a short time tha city will assume Its normal appearance. The total loss of life her was nineteen. With possibly two or thrre exceptions, all business houw resumed business within a clay or two after the earthquake, closing only a sufficient time to make necessary repairs. San Joa promptly organized forces for the i relief of the people of San Francisco, and Is ! prepared to rare for thousands of sufferers from the latter pfuce. . A great number of refugees have already been received. |
