This statement was made ' by David Starr Jordan, president of Stanford university, uni-versity, when asked to explain the awful damage wrought by the earthquake - on the magnificent stone structures on the university campus. . Dr. Jordan stated that the buildings were constructed - exactly ex-actly in accordance with the specifications specifica-tions and were inspected by a competent board of engineers and architects: He averred that his investigations had not revealed any defects or faulty construction construc-tion on the part of the contractor. . |
