Show j THEATERS j With every performer an artist,, and with the lavish expenditure of money In mounting the production of the "jolly Grass Widows,' which comes to the Lyric Ly-ric theater'' for the week commencing Saturday afternoon should prove a treat , for the patrons of that theater. The opening piece Is entitled "The Widow's Wedding Night," in which M'lle Jeanette . Quichard appears as the widow. Follow- j ing the olio, which 1 an all-star one, the performance will terminate with the In- . tenselv funny burlesque entitled "The Sign of the Red Light," In which the en- j tire company, assisted by Murray J. Simmons Sim-mons and Charles J. Burkhardt. the He- brew comedians, and Miss May Yuir, the dancing soubrette, create scores of laugh- ter. i "A Homespun Heart." which opened an engagement at the Grand last night. Is advertised as a companion piece to "Human "Hu-man Hearts." This ie hardly true, for the latter play is at least one lap to ths good over the homespun variety. However, How-ever, this does not' mean that "A Homespun Home-spun Heart" Is lacking In Interest. It Is replete with thrilling climaxes, with plenty of comedy running tnrougn ine play,, the whole being offered by a Company Com-pany that is up to the average. The Seeboeck Concert company comes next Monday night, "In Old Kentucky," Thursday and Friday nights, and "The Sho-gun" Saturday Sat-urday matinee aid night. Charles Burkhardt, one of the comedians come-dians with "The Jolly Grass Widows, appearing at the Lyric tomorrow and all next week. Is a Salt Lake boy and has many friends here. The first of the series of Thursday muBlcales at the Y. M. C. A. auditorium was attended by a small but appreciative : audience last night. The next mustcale will be given on Thanksgiving night. S e Work Is progressing rapidly on the new Orpheum theater on Btate street. It is expected that the theater will be ready ; for opening by the first of the year. The drill between a squad of nine sol- dlers from Fort Douglas and nine of the "Star Show Girls" drew a large crowd to the Lyric theater last night. The con- test was declared a draw by the stage ) manager, although the sentiment of the crowd was that the girls excelled their blue-coated opponents. i " |
