Show FOUR-ROUND BOUTS IN NEW YORK STATE State Senator Frawley of New York has Introduced a bill Into the New York Legislature providing for the allowing al-lowing of four-round bouts with eight-ounce eight-ounce gloves. The sports do not look with approval upon the proposed measure, meas-ure, as they believe that comparatively little Interest would be excited by such bouts. Two men must be very unevenly uneven-ly matched for one to gain a decisive advantage in four rounds, especially with such big gloves. There would seldom sel-dom be a knock-out, and that Is what the followers of the sport want to see. The clever boxer, who won on decisions deci-sions has never been popular in this country. The whirlwind fighter who put his opponents to sleep with a wallop wal-lop has been the man who got the plaudits, plau-dits, as witness the popularity of Fltz-slmmons. Fltz-slmmons. Jeffries, McGovern, Young Corbett and others of like kidney. However, the sports of New York regard re-gard the measure as better than none at all and hope that It will eventually lead to the game being thrown wide open. |
