Russia Acts Part art arta Of a Spoiled Child For the third time in the history of r the United Nations the Soviet Union has walked out of a meeting of the security cou council cil The first walkout was when the council voted to take up Iranian charges against Russia several years ago The second was just a few days ago when Jacob Malik the Soviet delegate demanded demanded demanded de de- unsuccessfully y that the council unseat the Nationalist China representative representative representative I in favor of a representative of Communist China The third walkout walkout walkout walk walk- out was after the council voted down 6 to 3 the Russia motion that the Nationalist delegate be ousted These Russian walkouts are excellent propaganda for the Communist anti-Communist cause in the world By its own actions on the world stage of the U. U N. N the Soviet Union demonstrates its pettiness Russia by these walkouts acts exactly like a spoiled child who wont won't play unless the game is played his way No doubt eventually a representative I of Comm Communist China will have to be seated in the United Nations The world cannot go on forever ignoring the facts of international life in China much as we might like to do so There must be some realism in diplomacy But Russia's churlish stubbornness will not hasten that day Such fretful petulance as the Soviet Union displays breeds contempt an ancl d di disregard rather than serious attention If Russia wants to play the part of a stubborn spoiled child on the world stage that's just fine It is the best possible demonstration tion of her shop in attitude in international affairs The American delegate put it very well when when in urging that the security council continue its work without Russia he said Our work here in the U. U N N. is too important to the people of the world to be imperiled at the whim of a member motivated by malice or a desire for propaganda Sometimes the best treatment for forthe forthe forthe the spoiled child who wont won't play is to just ignore him Frequently then he gets tired of his temper tantrum to which no one is paying attention and decides to behave like a human being
