OTHMAN HOLLYWOOD UP Shades UP-Shades Shades of 1906 before the time of the dress and heres here's Dorothy Lamour Lamour Lamour La- La mour cutting down her old dresses today and making em over In the Interests of national defense Also in the Interests of Dorothy She's saving a small fortune in new gowns and that's no press agents agent's gagI gagI gagI gag I remember not so very long ago Miss Lamour said when I had to have a new dress for Easter and no money to buy one Mother took the window curtains and made me a dress The curtains were pink voile It was a pretty dress Now Ive I've got the money but there arent aren't any silk or satin dresses to buy Best Saleslady Miss Lamour who is the best saleslady the treasury department ever had she sold worth of war bonds on her last tour of the country starts out this Friday for more of the same with a suitcase of odds and ends whipped from her wardrobes of 1910 1940 and 1911 1941 Edith Head the Paramount studio fashion designer did the whipping and you'd never know that Miss Lamour's new black frock with the pink middle was the spangled flower-spangled evening gown which caused the boys to gape two years ago Miss Head whacked off the skirt at the knees took In some tucks around the hips and made an overskirt overskirt overskirt over- over skirt from one of Miss Lamour's old black dresses The result is still enough to make the boys gape Heaven help the fat ladies said Miss Head These new styles are tighter skimpier and slinkier than ever before and while that does save cloth it makes life hard for any woman whose figure is less than perfect Dress Yards Less It used to to- tobe be that Miss Head would take eight yards of the finest silk to make Miss Lamour Lamoura a dress Now she uses three Skirts of all Miss Ls L's evening gowns now end at the knee which isn't such a bad idea either and that brings up the stocking lem lemI I still have four pairs of good silk stockings she said Ill wear those until I get a run in em But I also have some lisle and cotton net stockings and I must say they are fine They make your legs look very nice Most of Miss Lamour's old clothes were They had big spots of color on em and as she put it were good for two This was Miss Heads Head's fault She did it on purpose If It Ifa Ifa a a. movie actress couldn't wear a dress more than twice without without without with with- out the fans starting to sneer she had to have a lot of dresses resulting in good business for the dressmakers It was S selfish all right Miss Head said but this Is war and there is no doubt about it these new styles will save tremendous amounts of cloth Were We're carrying the same idea one step further by using no new cloth at all for this wardrobe New for Old The only cost is in the making and I should say that Dorothy is getting a whole trunk full of ot clothes made of her old ones atthe at atthe atthe the price of just one new dress That also is okeh with Miss La La- mour moor What with taxes and paying paying pay pay- ing attention to her own sales talks for war bonds she hasn't got the cash she used to have for dresses with yellow stripes down the frontIn frontIn front In a way it is very peculiar she said The more you make the more youve you've got to cut down la guerre |
